fashion talk and shopping on the weekends

June 28th, 2008

It was hard to stop myself from visiting the All Dressed Up store last weekend since it was having a storewide discount of 30%. Not so long ago, I spotted a coral peach top that flattered my autumn-spring skintone. I didn’t buy it since I wasn’t sure if I was going to pay around $300 for a blouse, especially after doing my monthly budget with our new budgeting software. But since it was on sale in the store, I couldn’t resist trying it again.

Guess what? Instead of the coral peach top, I walked out of the shop with a muted gold wax linen skirt. I fell in love with the colour… it was just the right shade of gold and made a versatile piece of any occasion - dress it up or down - it’s all up to me

shopping for baby shower gifts

shopping for baby shower gifts

Baby showers can be a fun event to attend. I love touching and admiring newborns, they always remind me of the miracle of life. This also marks the beginning of a new journey for the couple - it’s a beautiful occasion. But I’m always lost when it comes to shopping the right baby shower gifts.

If you are like me, it’s probably good to buy practical gifts that the parents or the baby can use, rather than a decorative item that may not sit nicely in the baby’s room or house. Something like a set of Safety 1st Hospital’s Choice Baby’s Deluxe Nursery Collection

let?s go online shopping for baby?s clothes

April 30th, 2008

It’s always great to hear about new baby arrivals and this morning at 1.30am, I got a text message that Baby Micah was born! I am so happy for our good friends that this is the beginning of a new journey for both of them. Actually, I can’t wait to do some baby clothes shopping online though the baby shower is not even planned yet!

let?s go online shopping for baby?s clothes

Shopping for Baby Clothes can be very fun and inspiring cos I love seeing the little trendy clothes for little tots. I have to say that the kids of this modern century are fortunate to have such wide selections of styles and designs. Laces and ruffles, polka dots and little fairies, pinkies and florets, you can find these at JoJo Designs, also known for its great discounts and savings when you shop online. Anyone who has the experience of shopping online can agree that it’s not cheap to shop for children’s clothing in the retail stores. Besides, retail stores may present a limited range of selections which also require one to travel from mall to mall to shop for the best. I do hope that JoJo Designs will add more boy’s clothing to its collection to provide customers a better shopping experience.

a chat with my shopping buddy

March 2nd, 2008

I have just ended a conversation with a good friend whom I haven’t spoken for a while. She was one of those shopping buddies who would walk from one end of Orchard road to another with me ten years ago - those were the days.

This time, we won’t chatting about the latest style or trend but she was sharing a story about her cousin who had a bad injury in her work place due to a defect on the machinery she was operating. It was sad to hear that she had to undergo several surgeries and sadly, she was not compensated in any way other than her medical bills being paid by her company. It looks like most people who suffered injuries or accident at work do not seek for accident compensation either due to fear or lack of knowledge. In cases like these, you may like to know that there are attorneys who provide specialized legal services and advice to those who need help with personal assessment and compensation for an industrial related disease, an accident or injury happened in a commercial place or at work. Instead of maintaining silence and suffer alone, a legal professional can help with the necessary to free you from this misery.

shopping for a career in beauty?

February 24th, 2008

Oh yes, I love beauty and fashion but seriously, I don’t think I can ever take this on as a career! I know of many women who do and if that’s what you are keen to do, then it’s time to start checking out this job search engine that allows you to find spa jobs and beauty-related jobs for FREE. Basically, you can treat this like place to SHOP for a job since it seeks to connect job seekers to beauty salons, spas, cosmetic clinics and more.

When it comes to beauty salons, many individuals automatically say ‘but, I don’t know how to cut hair.’  Yes, having hair care experience is likely to up your chances of being hired by a beauty salon, but not always.  Unfortunately, many individuals mistakenly believe that beauty salons only focus on hair care, but this is not true. Those types of establishments are ones that are often referred to as hair care salons, not necessarily beauty salons.  At a beauty salon, you can find a wide range of tasks performed, including clerical tasks, spray on tans, hair care, makeup application, and nail care.  What does this mean for you? This means that if you are interested in working in a beauty salon, there are a number of different tasks that you can perform. So does this get you thinking now?

last shopping spree in South Coast Plaza

January 7th, 2008

last shopping spree in South Coast Plaza

I had a last shopping spree on the last day of my vacation. I headed down to South Coast Plaza in Orange County and only wished I had more time. Since we were traveling with relatives, shopping time was usually limited as traveling with four children could be quite stressful. Anyhow, I love South Coast Plaza selection of shops. You can find few big departmental stores in the area including Bloomingdales, Saks Avenue, Nordstrom and Macy’s. From high end shops like Hermes, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Chanel to Valentino, you can also find a good mix of fashion forward retail shops and mid-range shops.

shopping in waikiki

December 23rd, 2007

One of the places to shop when you are in Waikiki is the DFS store. However, you can only allowed to buy duty free goods if you are traveling out of US and this only applies to non-American products.

I just realized that it’s cheaper to shop in Hawaii than Los Angeles since the tax here is lower. This means, I should be doing all my shopping here as much as I can - lol! I do noticed that the Japanese tourists are into buying Maui Divers gold chain and Tahitian black pearls. They are truly beautiful but do come with a price. Besides, I’m not so much a pearl person. I may stock up a few La Mer items since I am contemplating on the whitening mask… so much for shopping indulgence!

shopping in the Hawaiian islands

December 22nd, 2007

We are finally on the Pride of America sailing to the Hawaiian Islands. The first stop was Hilo, the Big Island and it was good that I had arrived with the mind to explore nature and nothing else.

Our visit to the Volcanoes National Park was fantastic though I wished I had a pair of Emu Australia boots with me. It was windy and rainy at Hilo especially when we were at the National Park. The litte souvenir shop had some nice things and information gifts regarding the active volcano like any other popular tourist spot.

I kinda enjoy the Mauna Loa Macadamia nut factory even though I had bought enough macadamias in Waikiki. Just don’t expect to see any shopping centres in Hilo, it is a sleep town with little action for the shoppers.

nice shopping at ala moana shopping centre

December 22nd, 2007

Yesterday, I took Clayton to Ala Moana Shopping Centre for an afternoon of shopping while DH went for his private surfing lesson. This is Oahu’s biggest shopping mall and if you don’t have a day to spare, you may not be able to cover the entire mall - it is huge.

I have returning four times in the week and have finally finished browsing through those shops that interest me. You can find luxury and high fashion shops like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Celine, Hermes and more with a mix of other mid-range and local fashion stores like Gap, Guess, Crazy Shirts, Tori Richard, Hilo Hattie and two other departmental stores, Macy and Sears. Nordstrom will be opening in March 2008 and 35 more stores will be added by then.
